Our hotel, the YMCA International Hotel

August 8th, 2008 | by jys |

I’m quite fussy when comes to hotel. I’m very afraid of dirty hotels and I do not want to stay in hostel or motel and i do not wish to spend that much on Hotel. Hehe, very troublesome right? My trip was on July but I already start researching about hotels since April. First I plan where to stay, then I started to do research on all the hotels around the area. I read reviews, post on forums, look for the pictures of the hotel, check the price and etc. Finally I narrow down to two hotels, the Stanford Hotel and the YMCA International Hotel.

Both hotels are very near to each other but YMCA are nearer to the MTR station. There are good reviews on both hotel. After narrow it down to two hotels, I start to find websites to book the hotel. I’ve found some websites which offers really good rates but their reviews are BAD. I do not want to have problems with my accommodation so I decided to find a site which offers good rate and has good reputation. At last, I decided to book from Agoda.com.

I chose to book the YMCA International Hotel @ Yao Ma Tei, Deluxe Promotion Room Without Breakfast for 4 nights (25 to 29 July) and altogether I need to pay USD 348.24 (about RM 280 per night). It is a 3 star hotel. Did I regret choosing this hotel? No, I did not. In fact, I was very happy with the hotel!

We took the MRT from Tsim Sha Tsui to Yao Ma Tei but we took the wrong exit. A is nearer but we exit at D. Luckily after asking for direction from the ppl there, we manage to find the hotel. But wait, our hotel is YMCA International Hotel but how come the name of this hotel becomes The Cityview?? There’s a 7-11 opposite the hotel so we decided to double confirm with the staff there. The staff stare at us and said, nor, opposite is YMCA lor!!

Har, how come it says Cityview? Aiyar, don’t care lar. When we walked in, we saw them removing the ‘Cityview’ and behind the Cityview it’s YMCA! Then only we heard from the staff that they are going to rename the hotel to The Cityview on 1st of September, now they are just testing to see whether the name fits the entrance or not.  When we checked in, the staff told us they have upgrade us to the executive suite. These suite just newly renovated. Wow, cool…

I wonder how’s their deluxe room. Will it be as nice as the executive suite? and how much is the executive suite? I’m really happy with this hotel, it’s clean, it’s comfortable, it’s convenient (opposite got a few ‘char chan teng’, got 7-11, 3 minutes walk to the Yao Ma Tei MTR station) their staff are all polite and helpful. If I were to visit Hong Kong again, I will definitely choose this hotel again.

I’m looking through the reviews of hotels. So far have narrowed down to those located in tsim sha tsui, kowloon. I’m pretty much a clean freak, so a good clean accommodation is important as it can make or break a trip for me!

    Jys:
this YMCA is clean!! can consider lar..

Yeah, the hotel is quite clean from your photo~ Anyway, it is bit pricey… Is that the cheapest from your finding in order to get such “standard” of hotel?

    Jys:

Hi Jys, thanks for your kind reply on ferry terminal. I wrote you thrice there and it doesn’t seem to get across the board.

Regarding accommodation, I was thinking of Dorsett Seaview, cos of the price usually advertised, RM250+? But is it really that bad?

They promised to be wheelchair accessible, but I’ve also read on comments the hotel room is not equip with a lot of things as written on their website. Hm..

Hope you don’t mind sharing more about the room of Cityview. Is it wide enough for a wheelchair to pass through, especially the bathroom?

    Thanks yet again!

    Jys:
ya, i received all 3 of your comments (it’s being treated as spam comment, hehe) but don’t worry, i’ve already de-spam it.

dorsett seaview? is it the one near ‘miu gai’? If it is, it looks quite old from the outside, and i did saw some reviews on the forums that some of the rooms are not that clean and smelly. maybe you should do more research and read comments from people who stayed there before.

as for citiview, i personally am quite happy with this hotel. their service is good, hotel is very clean and most importantly, it’s very very convenient. Hotel rooms in HK are all very small, not much space to walk also (you can see from the photos i took), therefore it’s a bit difficult for wheel chair to wheel around. Maybe you should contact the hotel and asked them whether they have any bigger rooms with bigger bathrooms?

Hi, thanks for the reply yet again. Have filled in the inquiry form of Cityview, but never got any reply from them, aiya..

But nvm lah, since only need the room for tidur, as long as can get in can lah..

    Jys:
haha, true lar, as long as the hotel is clean and the service is good and convenient to take public transportation
