The Octopus Card (八达通)

If you are going to Hong Kong, you must must must buy the Octopus Card. It is very useful, besides using it on their MTR, you can also used it when you take the bus, the tramways(电车), 7-11, McDonald and many many more. It helps to save money too, how come? I heard from FL’s friend who is currently working in Hong Kong said that if you travel by the MTR and pay with Octopus Card, it’s cheaper than buying the ticket every time you travel. It’s convenient, it helps to save money, so I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t buy the Octopus Card.

HKD 150 per card, HKD 50 is the deposit, which you can refund and HKD 100 is the value that you can used. They will charged a small fee, HKD 7 when you refund. So the deposit you can get back is HKD 43. The octopus card is just like our touch n go card. You scan and you can go. One thing good about this Octopus card is that you can used it even though you left 0 balance. Yes, it will show negative value, but of cos, it’s deducting from your HKD 50 deposit lar..

I thought HKD 100 will be enough for my 5 days trip but unfortunately, it’s not!! I still need to deposit another HKD 50! That means transportation fee, the MTR + Bus took us HKD 150 (per person)! Transportation is very convenient there, and it’s not cheap!!

So make sure you get a octopus card if you travel to Hong Kong. With octopus card, you can go anywhere you want and eat anything you want. hehe..

    hahaha told u the transportation there not cheap la. the first day i was there, i spend almost HKD40 on transport - just taking the mtr le. crazy or not?

    ya, really not cheap but i’m impressed with what they do to their transportation. All link nicely, you can change to disney line or airport line without having to walk out of the building and buy another ticket!! and you can paid all with this octopus card!!
