National Chiang Kai-Shek (CKS) Memorial Hall (國立中正紀念堂)
February 5th, 2009 | by jys |Today is the first day of our Taiwan trip (arrived late yesterday). I did research about Taipei before I come. It’s winter now (dec) and it’s best to start the journey early as the sky will be dark at 5pm. We decided to start our journey and tried our best to wake up early. It was already around 8am when we walked out from our hotel.
The CKS memorial hall is the first place that we’re going to visit. As soon as we finished our breakfast at a small shop opposite our hotel, we took the MRT to the CKS Memorial Hall (from Taipei Main Station to CKS Memorial Hall Station).

On our way to the CKS Memorial Hall

(seems like there’s some protests going on..)

The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (國立中正紀念堂) is a monument erected in memory of former President Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China in Taipei, Taiwan.

The main hall with a large bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek
(蔣介石 / 蔣中正)

nice ceiling

chinese painting/writing at 1st / 2nd floor, forgot.. hehe..
There’s a museum at the ground level documenting Chiang Kai-shek’s life and career and exhibits related to Taiwan’s history and development.

writing and painting

Chiang Kai-shek’s personal limousine, nice and shiny!
I overheard from a tour guide (I kept following them.. :p) that this car had saved Chiang Kai-shek’s life by blocking a gun shot. She said we can still see the bullet mark at the bottom of the car (but i can’t see it.. and i walked away cos she started to stare at me.. hehe..)

another car..

more paintings and his belongings

Chiang Kai-shek’s office and his wax statue, looks real..

We spent about 2-3 hours there, the place is BIG and the museum is very big too, lot’s of stuff to see. You can hire a tour guide to explain to you but they won’t guide you through the whole museum. They will only bring you to the limousine and talked about the gun shot, then they will bring you to the Chiang Kai-shek’s office. How I know? Cos i followed a few different tour guide and I noticed they all talked and showed the same thing. hehe.. I think this place is definitely worth visiting! If you visit Taipei one day, make sure you don’t miss this place!

Hi,
I’ve enjoyed reading your travel blog. I chanced upon it while searching stuff for my upcoming HK trip. I went Taipei last Sept and didn’t get to step into the interior of CKS Memorial Hall. These pics have shown me what the inside is like. Thanks!
Do continue to blog about your travels.
Jys:
