Have you heard about the Sukuk Simpanan Rakyat (SSR)? Is it worth to invest?
April 13th, 2009 | by jys |Have you heard about the Sukuk Simpanan Rakyat (SSR) commencing from 14 April to 13 May 2009? I’m sure you must have heard about this SSR from the radio or read it from the newspaper. If you have no idea what is it, it is issued by Ministry of Finance as an additional investment instrument for Malaysian (21 years and above). So why every one is so excited about this? Well, mainly because it is offering a return of 5% per annum where else the current fixed deposit rate is only 2% per annum and it provides the flexibility for early redemption before the maturity date.
The minimum investment in Sukuk Simpanan Rakyat is RM 1000, which is same as fixed deposit. If you compare the rate return, people will definitely go for the SSR which is 5% per annum. One thing I’m not so sure is that, since it’s an investment, does that means we guaranteed can get 5% per year? Or we might get less than that?
Anybody knows how this thing work? Is it worth to invest?

I will keep the money to put in stock. Stock market will be up in next 2 years. And it will have more than 5% return per year.

I’ve call BNM, they said this is a fixed price bond, profit is also fixed at 5% as promised by goverment, which means if U invested RM1,000-00 U’ll get back RM1,000-00 after 3 years with RM150-00 profit which will be paid into your S/A quarterly (i.e.RM12.50 each quarter), but since only one name is allow to put into the bond, would advise U to use joint savings A/c.
Jys:
Wow, thanks for the information!

Jys:
ya, i think so. Based on the 5%, 1000 will have RM 50 per year and for 3 yrs you will get RM 150 as interest.
