The National Palace Museum (国立故宫博物院) is our first destination on the second day of our Taiwan trip. After we had our yummy yummy siu long bao (上海小笼包) breakfast, we took the MRT from Taipei Main Station(台北车站) to Shilin Station(士林站).

Bus station, right in front of the entrance of Shilin Station.
these buses will take us to the National Palace Museum

The bus arrived after 5 minutes and about 10 to 15 minutes later, we arrived at the National Palace Museum. We paid by easy card (悠游卡), so can’t remember how much is the bus fare.

The first thing you see when you walked in from the entrance will be the counter that provides handheld audio. The handheld audio will act as your personalized guided tour of the museum. You can choose the highlighted exhibits that you’re interested and learn about them. We both regretted for not getting the handheld audio.

the entrance to the museum

The National Palace Museum is an art museum in Taipei City, Taiwan. It ranks as one of the four best museums in the world. That is why even you might not interested in these thing (i’m talking about me lar..), you should pay a visit to this museum too. hehe.. The museum holds the world’s largest collection of Chinese artifacts (700,000 items). You will only find about 15,000 pieces at one time due to the limited space and the display will be rotated every 3 months. In other words, it will take you about 12 years to view all the 700,000 pieces!

There are altogether 3 floors and there are a few halls in each floor. Each hall exhibits different artifacts categories such as bronze, painting, jades, ceramics, calligraphy, rare books, documents, curios, pottery and etc. We were not allowed to take any pictures, else I’ll definitely show you a few pieces of jade that is REALLY nice!

We spent about 3 hours in the museum and I bought a name card holder for FL which costs me nt 300 (RM 35).

p1010530

The Chihshan Garden (至善园)
The garden features fine Sung Dynasty landscaping.
FL and I decided to skip this as we both were too tired to walk. hehe..

We took a bus back to the Shilin MRT Station and had our steamboat lunch before we proceed to the next destination.

This place is huge. How I wished I was in a wheelchair and someone would wheel me around instead of walking. Damn a lot of things to see and go “Woah~!” at, but, not my kind of things. LOL. We left after 2.5 hours.

    Jys:

I guess one of the reason is we were not paying a lot attention at those artifacts. I saw many people stopped in front of some artifacts with intent gaze. But We only walked by & chatted like in the shopping centre. Haha. So you did see 翠玉白菜、肉形石、清明上河圖?

    Jys:
ya ya, love the 翠玉白菜, very nice!!

Though one can’t take photos inside the museum itself, U’ve got a good coverage of National Palace Museum.

    I’ve featured U here:
