Enzyme again? Well yes!! After the first dragon fruit enzyme that I made for my aunt, my aunt got addicted to enzyme and she made lot’s of lot’s of different kinds of fruits enzymes. When I went back hometown two weeks ago, she showed me the fruit enzymes that she made and I’m so impressed! WOW!! Let me show you…

Dragon Fruit + Lemon Enzyme (龙珠果)
(sorry, hand a bit shaky when took the pic with my hp.. hehe..)
dragon fruit enzyme prevent aging..

a closer look

These are a bit different from the one that I made for my aunt last time. The formula is still the same, (one layer of fruits, one layer of lemon, one layer of sugar..) just that my aunt cut the fruits into very small pieces. Why cut into small pieces? Cos we’re not going to just drink the liquid but we will eat the fruits as well. Then we no need to sieve, no need to think what to do with the leftovers fruits..Good also hor.. we just swallow everything into our stomach.. hehe..

Papaya + Lemon Enzyme (木瓜）
good for the stomach..

a closer look

Longan + Beetroot + Lemon
this is new!! got combination some more..
good for the liver and lung leh..

a closer look

Besides these, she also made pineapple + lemon enzyme, and I love the taste of the pineapple enzyme. Nice!! sweet and sour.. The pineapple enzyme is good to reduce cholesterol, one to two table spoon every night. The dragon fruit and longan one I have not taste yet, so no comment.. as for the papaya + lemon.. well..

this is the papaya..
if you to make this, you have to buy those really green papaya..
if you buy those ripe papaya, your enzyme will end up very ‘lam bek bek’, very geli..
hehe it won’ t be one piece one piece like this..

and the lemon..
how it taste? SOUR!! VERY SOUR!! hehee…
I still prefer the pineapple one…

I finally made my own garbage enzyme (in july, now already 2 months old.. hehe..) after my aunt showed me how to make it 3 months ago. hehe…I’m living in a condo therefore I don’t really have such a big space to make a big tong of garbage enzyme, I don’t have so much kitchen waste as well.. That is why I decided to use the 5 liter mineral water bottle to make my garbage enzyme.

5 liter mineral water bottle, fill it up with 3 liter of water

The garbage enzyme formula is 1kg Black/Brown Sugar : 3Kg Kitchen waste: 10 litre of water. For my case, I use about 3 liter water, so the rest I agak agak lor..

black sugar

lemon and dragon fruit’s skin.

The lemon & dragon fruit skin are from the apple and dragon fruit enzyme. I hope my garbage enzyme smells like lemon so I keep more lemon skin than dragon fruit skin. hehe…

pour the black sugar into the water, close the cap and shake for a while to let the sugar melt in the water

put in all the lemon + dragon fruit skin into the bottle and shake shake shake…

I think I put too much skin into the bottle, too greedy.. so on and off I have to go shake the bottle to make sure all skin soaked in the water. I did open up the cap to release the gas from time to time and it wasn’t smelly at all, the garbage enzyme really smells like lemon.. fresh and nice smell!!

My garbage enzyme is now 2 months old, another month more I can see the result!! Excited!! Have you tried making your own garbage enzyme at home?

Finally finally finally, after waiting for 3 weeks, my apple fruit enzyme is ready to be served. Hooray!! My first apple fruit enzyme seems to be a success, no black black stuff, no mold, no bug.. hehe.. It smells really nice when I opened up the cover. I smell a little bit of apple, a little bit of lemon, then a little bit of wine….

3 weeks old apple fruit enzyme

First I use a big sieve to sieve the big slices of apple and lemon

After that, I use a small sieve to sieve the apple enzyme again, to get liquid only

this is what I get from my big bottle of apple fruit enzyme

I should have use brown sugar instead of dark sugar,
then my enzyme will looks better (lighter in color)

some said the leftover fruits can be used to make jams (blend it),
or as body exfoliator or as fertilizer for the soil.
I decided to keep it and used it for my next batch of garbage enzyme.

According to what I read from magazines/Internet, take one tablespoon of enzyme and mixed with water. You can drink it before or after your meal. How does it taste? Actually it taste exactly like how it smells, a little bit of apple, and lemon … sour, and taste a little bit like wine. I think I did not put enough sugar as it is not sweet at all, a bit more sugar will taste better.

Enzymes are an amazing type of protein that provides energy and reactivates our cells. Drink everyday can help to detox our body and keep us healthy. Oh ya, by the way, my aunt told me her dragon fruit enzyme taste great, I guess dragon fruit taste better than apple fruit enzyme. Luckily I love sour stuff so to me, the taste of apple enzyme still acceptable. i tried adding ribena to my apple enzyme, hehe, and it taste great too! :p

You should really try it out yourself.. The process of making it, till you get the final result. It’s really an experience.

As promised earlier, I will now post the progress picture of my apple fruit enzyme. Sorry no pics for dragon fruit enzyme, that one I made it for my aunt, so now it’s with her. Anyway, this is how the apple fruit enzyme looks like after one week.

I’m not sure is it the way I did it wrong or wat, the juice from the fruits did not cover the upper most level. Perhaps apple don’t have much juice? hehe.. I tried to push it down but the the apple is still hard and I can’t really push them down. I was afraid the uncovered part will grow mold so I used 2 clean and dry spoon to stir it. I scoop the bottom part up and push the top part down.

I did see some white color stuff on top of my enzyme. According to the enzyme book I read from the Popular book store (too expensive, so i ended up reading it there, hehe…), the white color thing is harmless, but BEWARE, if you see black color one? that means your enzyme is spoiled and cannot consume anymore. So take note!!

2 more weeks to go..excited.. excited!!

I’ve read a lot about fruit enzyme and had always wanted to try to make it myself. However, it has been delayed and delayed cos I can’t seems to find a suitable, inexpensive glass bottle. Some told me to go find at hypermarket, some said jusco but it’s either I can’t find it, the size not suitable or the price is way too expensive.

Last weekend when I went back to my hometown, I told my aunt about this fruit enzyme. She had been making a lot of garbage enzyme （垃圾酵素） but she never heard about fruit enzyme. She was so excited after I told her and immediately she brought me to a shop where I can find all sorts of glass bottles.

Actually I wanted to get a 2 litre glass bottles but that shop only sells big glass bottles. So we ended up getting ourselves two 5 litre glass bottles. hehe… I read a lot of different versions on how to make fruit enzyme, some do it with one fruit, some mix fruits with lemon, some said with skin, some said without skin and etc. Since I love lemon so much, I decided to try the fruits with lemon version, without skin.

Formula:
Fruits (can be any fruit, dragon fruit, apple, orange, grapes, pineapple, mango..)
Lemon
brown/black sugar/Honey

Instructions:

1. Wash the fruits and leave it dry. Make sure everything is dry.
2. Remove the skin, cut the fruit into slices.
3. First layer add lemon, followed by sugar, then the fruit, then lemon again, and sugar and fruit.
4. Fill the bottle till it’s 70% full.
5. The last layer must be covered with lemon.
6. Close the bottle and placed it at a cool area for 3 weeks.
7. Remember to open up on the third day to release gas.
8. You will see the bottle filled with water on the 2nd or 3rd day (depends what fruit you used), make sure all the fruits soaked into the water.

black sugar

My aunt loves dragon fruit so I made her a jar of dragon fruit enzyme. According to some article, dragon enzyme can prevent aging!!

peel the skin, cut dragon into slices

Dragon Fruit Enzyme (龙珠果酵素)

As for me, I choose to make apple enzyme. Why? Can get rid of fats and keep fit wor. hehe..

Apple Fruit Enzyme (萍果酵素)

we ran out of black sugar, so the last layer we used brown sugar. :p should be ok gua…

last layer covered with lemon slices

I have no idea how the end result will be, how it taste and whatsoever. Pray hard, hope both enzymes also can success lar…

I went back to my hometown two weeks ago. The minute I reached home, my aunt brought me to the kitchen and showed me a big pail. She told me it’s garbage enzyme. Wow!! I am interested in making garbage enzyme ever since I read about it from the newspaper but somehow, I’m not sure how to make it and what is the outcome of it. That is why I’m so excited when I know my aunt is making it and she’s gonna show me how to make it!!

Here’s the garbage enzyme formula:-
1kg Black/Brown Sugar
3Kg Kitchen waste (Fruits skin/vege/pandan leaves, don’t use meat, else it will be very smelly!!)
10 litre of water

If you have more kitchen waste, say 6kg, then you should use 2kg of black sugar and 20 litre of water. Just calculate accordingly.

any air tight plastic container/bottles will do

Black Sugar

My aunt’s friend got this from a fruits seller in the market. we can’t possibly eat so much fruits lar!! hehe..

let’s see how heavy is this.. it’s 12.5kg!!

We will need 10 litre of water for every 3kg of kitchen waste, therefore, our 12.5kg will need about 40 litre water and 4kg of black sugar.

First, dilute black sugar (4kg) in water (40 litre), then add in all the kitchen waste/fruits skin. If you want it to smell better, add in more lemon/orange peels and pandan leaves. You can add in anything you want, as long as it’s vege and fruits. Preferably no meat cos it will be very smelly.

cut the fruits/skin into small pieces

Close it tight, place at cool, dry and well ventilated area and avoid direct sunlight. Keep it for at least 3 months (the longer the better, it will not expired) and remember to open daily to release gases for the first month.

After 3 months, filter and remove the residue. You can reuse the residue again for a new batch of production by adding fresh garbage or you can buried the residue in the ground as a fertilizer.

These garbage enzyme are ready for use!!

The garbage enzyme should be in brown color, if it turned black, add in the same amount of sugar and start the fermentation process all over again. You may encounter white, brown, and black layer (or even worms) on top of the enzyme during the fermentation process. Do not worry, leave it as it is and the chemical reaction will resolve them naturally.

So how useful is the garbage enzyme? Well well well…When you mop the floor, add a small cap of enzyme into the water and you will see a lot of dirt comes off. You can also used it to wash the toilet bowl and trust me, it will be sparkling clean!! Add some enzyme into your glass cleaner and your mirror will be shiny and clean.

It’s best to use on oily stuff, i used to have a hard time cleaning the kitchen’s hood cover (the one that filter the oil) but the enzyme makes my life easier. I tried soaking the cover into water with detergent and enzyme, gently rub the cover and tah-dah, no more oily cover!

The garbage enzyme is really an excellent cleaning tool. You can also add some into your shampoo or body shampoo or whatever you can think of. Well, I really can’t think of a reason why you should not make the garbage enzyme.

Let us all save the earth through garbage enzyme!!
