So do remember to bring a reusable bag when you shopped at IKEA. Let’s be more environmental-friendly and together(with Ikea), we save the Earth! hehe…

p/s: you can get Ikea’s reusable bag (the big blue bag) at RM 1.90 (previously RM 3.90) only.

About a year ago, I bought 2 bookcase from Ikea to keep all my books. The bookcase is not very expensive, quite tall and wide and without doors. Last month, I redeemed my credit card points from my Alliance-Ikea Card and managed to get 5 RM 10 Ikea vouchers (valid for 3 months). So I went into Ikea to see see look look, to see what can I buy.

I saw from one of their showrooms, the bookcase I bought can actually add glass doors. It looked different after adding the glass doors and most importantly, the books will not get dusty! I was very interested and immediately I check for the price. The display bookcase is in white (beware! different colors different price! I kena once when I bought the bookcase!!) and the glass doors also in white. It stated there glass door x2, Rm 140. So in my mind, it’s left + right door = Rm 140.

Few days ago, I went to Ikea again to get the glass doors for my bookcase. As I said earlier, different color different price, my bookcase is in black brown so the glass door is slightly more expensive, RM 175 each, and I took 2 boxes (for 2 bookcase). When I got home and opened up the box, I was shocked! There’s only one glass door in each box, which means, left door = Rm 175, right door = Rm 175, OMG, that’s sooo expensive lar. My bookcase only costs RM 245 and the glass doors need RM 350? Where got accessories more expensive than the item itself one?

Very clearly I misunderstood the price label shown on the display sets! So now what? I’m not willing to pay another RM 350 to get another set of glass doors for my second bookcase. But if one with glass door and one without, not nice also mar.. That is when I decided to refund. On the back of the receipt it says we can ask for refund in 30 days, just make sure we did not assemble the item and bring it back with the original packaging and of cos, the receipt as well lar.

So two days later, I brought back these glass doors to ask for a refund. The staff opened up the box and checked the item, then asked me what is the reason I asked for refund. I wanted to tell him it’s too expensive, hehe, but at last I told him I changed my mind. He said he will refund to me immediately after he checked the items. I thought he will give me cash but he gave me a refund voucher which worth Rm 350. He said I can buy anything from Ikea and the cashier will refund me back the remaining.

Again, I thought I can just buy something cheap and get back the remaining in CASH but again I was WRONG!! You see, my refund voucher worth RM 350, so i bought a packet of soil which costs Rm 1.90. I thought I can get back RM 348.10 in cash but the cashier issue ANOTHER refund voucher to me which worth Rm 348.10!! Arggggg…

Ikea so clever lar, they allow people to refund, but they will give you refund voucher and you will need to spend/use the refund voucher in Ikea within 3 months… headache headache, now I’m cracking my head trying to think what to buy with Rm 350..

So .. the moral of the story, don’t simply buy things from ikea without checking or understanding carefully. Cos once you paid, even you can refund, your money that you spent will still belongs to Ikea..
